New Member Code of Ethics

All new REALTOR® members must complete a course on the Code of Ethics of the National Association of REALTORS® within the first 180 days of their membership as a condition of membership.

The Board offers several courses throughout the year in cooperation with the Greater Providence Board of REALTORS®.  The courses are held at the Board office located at 2178 Mendon Road, Suite 400, Cumberland, RI.  They are approved for 3 CORE Rhode Island Real Estate licensee continuing education credits and are 3 hours in length.  Click here to learn more or sign up for our 2/22/2021 broadcast class from 9:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.  Our next broadcast class will be 5/3/21 from 6-9 pm.

The National Association of REALTORS® also offers an online course through this link You will be asked to enter your 9-digit NRDS (National REALTOR® Database System) number.  This is your membership identification number with the REALTOR® Association and all new members will receive this information via an email from our Membership Director, Erin Herzog.  There will be an opportunity to locate that number while registering for the course.  The online course is not approved for any Rhode Island real estate licensee continuing education credits and is 2 ½ - 3 hours in length.  The NRIBR also offers online courses through its partnership with The CE Shop.  Select either Course #C006 or #C008.  If you are unsure of whether you have completed this require course, please contact us for assistance at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (401) 333-6343.  You can also view the date we have on file for you by logging into the member portal and then looking in the lower left corner.

There are no exceptions to this new member course requirement.

As a point of reference, REALTOR® isn't a synonym for real estate broker or real estate salesperson. A REALTOR®, simply put, is an individual who has voluntarily sought membership in the REALTOR® Association and abides by the Code of Ethics of the NAR. A REALTOR® is someone who is licensed (i.e. salesperson, broker, appraiser, auctioneer, property manager).
